1952 Studebaker Commander Starlight Coupe.
The 1952 Studebaker was the last of that
particular shape, having been introduced in 1947. The 1953 model
was lower and sleeker and the forerunner of the HAWK.
This STARLIGHT and the other models of
that era were a major breakthrough known as the ‘which way is it
going’ car designed by Bob Bourke. The 1950 and 1951 models that
featured the BULLET NOSE enjoyed large sales figures for the
company. Raymond Loewy’s design team played a special part in
that era.
Studebaker was born in South Bend Indiana in 1852 building covered wagons and in 1903 they built their first electric car, they also had plants in Los Angeles and Hamilton in Canada where the final LARK rolled off the production line in 1966. This vehicle seats four to five passengers plus driver.
